A message from our Principal

Bumpus Family--

I hope you all are enjoying this beautiful weather. I attended a bridal shower this morning and a 9-year-old birthday party this afternoon. I was so happy that it was so gorgeous out.

We had Kindness Week last week. Please check out our school's social media to see some of the excellent videos and activities. Then, we wrapped up our week with a pep rally. We recognized our fall sports and other groups, as well as our spring sports.

I cannot believe February has already come and gone! Thank you to everyone who came out to the curriculum nights. I hope you found it informative. As promised, the presentations are on the Bumpus website. Here is the link to the upcoming 7th and 8th-grade presentation. Curriculum Night

On March 3, we will be having “Moving Up Day.” The incoming 6th-grade students will come from the elementary schools, and then our current 6th and 7th-grade students will meet their future teachers. It should be a fun morning.

Our wonderful PTO has built a wonderful teacher workspace for breaks and meetings. They are almost ready to unveil it!! If you are led to contribute and buy some goodies for the teachers for this space, here is the link. Consider it an early Teacher Appreciation Gift. This is just a small token of appreciation for our teachers and staff. https://a.co/03wl55D6

This is a parent survey that HCS and ALSDE send out every year. It asks about the school's culture and climate. Your feedback is essential and helps us improve. Please take the time to fill it out. One of the first things I did last summer was read the survey results. These results truly show us how to steer the ship. I appreciate your time in completing this survey. Survey

Please scroll through this whole newsletter for updates. We appreciate everyone's continued support.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email or call me.

With Pride,
Dr. Andrea Fordham

Important Messages from the School Nurses

Wellness Prevention

As cold and flu season is upon us, it is especially important that we do all we can to prevent the spread of germs. Below are some helpful tips from the school nurses on wellness prevention:

  • Frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and warm, running water is our best line of defense against the spread of germs.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches a surface or object contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • If your child has a fever, they should remain at home. Children must be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours before returning to school. This will help prevent the spread of illnesses to others. Click here to see when to keep your child home from school.
By working together, we can maintain a clean and healthy environment for our students and staff and limit the spread of germs. This also helps to prevent the sharing of germs with our family and friends outside of school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your school nurse for guidance.
