A message from our Principal

Donna Burke

Dear Parents and Guardians-

Last Tuesday,  we had three great Awards Day ceremonies. This is always a great time to celebrate our students. On Thursday, we had our school-wide Career Day. We hosted so many folks from throughout the community who came to share about their careers. It was a GREAT day!

We have our end-of-the-year Assessments on Monday, May 19th, and Tuesday, May 20th. All students will have an assessment in all of their core classes, plus some elective classes. Some assessments might be in the form of a test, and some might be projects or presentations. In addition, on Tuesday, May 20th, yearbooks will be given out during PE classes, and the last two half-days of school will be for “make-up” assessments and year-end celebrations.

Last, but not least, we have high expectations for our students to behave appropriately during these last few days of school. Students need to be in class and on time. Students need to make good choices at all times and follow our core values. The last thing we want to do during these last few days is to give consequences. Please help reiterate these expectations to your children.

Donna Burke
Principal

IMPORTANT NEWS

Important Dates

DEADLINE: Online Registration must be completed by May 22

Online registration will close May 22.

25-26 ONLINE REGISTRATION
Please complete your child's online registration form as soon as possible. If you did not receive an email regarding online registration, please email cstone@hoover.k12.al.us. Your child's account may be on hold.

We have approximately 198 parents who have not started or completed their child's online registration. Numerous emails have been sent out. If you haven't completed the registration yet and have not received any emails, please check your spam folder or email Carol Stone at cstone@hoover.k12.al.us. All students are required to have their online registration completed before school is out. At the end of May, online registration will be shut down until school starts in August (except for new students). This means if students have not registered online, they cannot participate in school activities during the summer.
If you have students who are involved in workouts, practices, plays, camps, etc., they must have completed their online registration to be enrolled for the 25-26 school year.

All rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) and rising 6th graders (current 5th graders) are required to upload a current utility bill. If you have completed your registration form and did not upload your utility bill, you can email your utility bill to cstone@hoover.k12.al.us. Please include your child's name and grade.

Some students have been placed on hold for residency issues or immunizations. These students will not be allowed to complete online registration until the information needed is complete.

RESIDENCY UPDATES
If your lease has expired or if you have moved, please bring in a current lease or deed along with a current utility bill. All students' accounts with expired leases will be put on hold.
Registration Closing 5/22

Important Message from the Health Room

Note from the nurse

Notes from the Nurse

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The end of the school year requires some housekeeping tasks throughout the school. The health room is no exception.

An adult will be required to pick up any medications that your child may have in the health room, unless your child has specific written permissions to carry the medication on their person. Medications should be picked up by noon on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Any medications left at school will be destroyed after noon on May 22. No exceptions.

When your child returns to school in August a new medication form with parent and physician signature will be required. This will be sent to you along with a Health Care Plan for next year (if one is required) that you will need to sign and return along with the medication and the form. One form will be required for each medication brought to school for the 2025-2026 school year.

If you have any questions, please call Nurse Zylstra or Nurse Schmith at 205-439-2261 or 205-439-2230.

Have a safe and happy summer.

Important Information for Incoming High School Students & Families

Dear Students and Families,
We are thrilled to welcome you to Hoover High School! As you begin this exciting transition from middle school, we want to share a few important policies and procedures to help make your start as smooth as possible.
At Hoover, we encourage students to build independence and responsibility, and part of that includes coming to school fully prepared each day. Please make sure your student arrives each morning with all the items they need, including:
  • Backpack
  • Chromebook and charger
  • Instruments
  • Uniforms or clothing for extracurriculars
  • Lunch/money
  • Any necessary school supplies
Drop-Off Policy
To minimize classroom disruptions, Hoover High only accepts emergency medical item drop-offs during the school day (e.g., medication, inhalers, emergency replacement clothing, feminine supplies, etc.). We do not accept forgotten items such as instruments, lunches, or Chromebooks at the office.
However, parents are welcome to meet students in the lobby during their Crew period or between class bells if they need to hand something off directly. In addition, athletic gear may be dropped off directly at practice locations after school.

To support rising 9th-grade parents in the fall, Hoover High put together an "HHS Who Can Help Me" form featuring key staff names and email addresses for easy reference.

We appreciate your support in helping students build daily habits that lead to success in high school and beyond. We’re so glad you’re joining the Hoover community and look forward to a fantastic year!

Reminders for the School Year

CARPOOL:
  • In order for students to get to class by 8:30am, it would be best for students to be dropped off by 8:25am.
  • If you prefer carpool or do not qualify for a bus, it would be great for families to “carpool” and have more than one student in the car. By doing this we could eliminate the number of cars we have in the lines.
  • If you pick up in the afternoon carpool, it is important to close the big gaps between cars in the line. By closing the gaps, we can be much more efficient in the carpool process.
  • If you do carpool or have other family members pick up your child– please make sure they are aware of how our carpool pick-up works.
WALKERS & BIKE RIDERS
  • Students must stay on the sidewalks when walking to and from school.
  • Students should follow all directions given by our Crossing Guards and our School Resource Officer.
  • Students walking towards Lake Wilburn, should only walk on the sidewalk down Flemming Pkwy. Students should NOT cross Flemming.
  • Students walking towards Green Trails should stay on the sidewalk and only cross the street when directed by the Crossing Guard or our School Resource officer.
  • Students riding bikes should MUST wear bike helmets.
  • Due to the steep hill going down Flemming and the crowded sidewalks, students should walk beside their bikes and not ride down the hill.
  • Students are not allowed to ride scooters to and from school.
BUS RIDERS:
  • Appropriate bus behavior is crucial for the safety of all of our students who ride the bus.
  • Students should remain seated at all times and keep their hands and feet to themselves.
  • In addition, students can use their phones on the bus. However, they do not need to take pictures or videos of people who do not wish to have pictures or videos taken.
  • On the bus, students can listen to music but must use headphones.

Dropping off items
DROPPING OFF ITEMS:
  • Parents can drop off items for students during the day if they forget items.
  • We will not be able to call students down for items such as PE clothes, assignments, sports items. If a student forgets these items, they can come down during the day to check to see if these items have been dropped off.
  • However, we will be able to call students down for lunch money or if they forgot their lunch and need to pick it up.
WATER BOTTLES:
  • Students can have water bottles during the school day, but the bottles need to be clear or translucent. Students can only have water in the bottles. Metal bottles and metal cups are not allowed. In the cafeteria, students can bring and buy drinks other than water.
