We only have seven full days of school and two half-days of school left, and we have a LOT packed into each day. This week we have AWARDS day on Tuesday, May 13th. Parents of students receiving awards will be notified. The only exception is for parents of students receiving A & A/B honor roll. These parents will not be notified.

On Thursday, May 15th, we have our school-wide Career Day. We have so many folks from throughout the community who have agreed to come to Bumpus to share about their careers. As I told the students, this is like having an “on campus” field trip!!  

We have our end-of-the-year Assessments on Monday, May 19th, and Tuesday, May 20th. All students will have an assessment in all of their core classes, plus some elective classes. Some assessments might be in the form of a test, and some might be projects or presentations. In addition, on Tuesday, May 20th, yearbooks will be given out during PE classes, and the last two half-days of school will be for “make-up” assessments and year-end celebrations.  

As you can see, we have a LOT going on. I know there are times when you will need to check out your student for an appointment, but it would be good to keep this to a minimum.

Last, but not least, we have high expectations for our students to behave appropriately during these last few days of school.. Students need to be in class and on time. Students need to make good choices at all times and follow our core values. The last thing we want to do during these last few days is to give consequences. Please help reiterate these expectations to your children.

We are excited for the Bumpus Career Fair on May 15th! This will be an exciting day filled with information and activities.

Our Career Fair day expectations are listed here. Students should remain in dress code for the day. Students may bring their backpacks with their Chromebook, lunch (if not purchasing from the lunchroom), and a water bottle.

If you would like to participate in Career Fair day, but haven't received any communication, please email Kerry Efurd at kefurd@hoover.k12.al.us by Tuesday, May 13th.

Please complete your child's online registration form as soon as possible. If you did not receive an email regarding online registration, please email cstone@hoover.k12.al.us. Your child's account may be on hold.

All rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) and rising 6th graders (current 5th graders) are required to upload a current utility bill. If you have completed your registration form and did not upload your utility bill, you can email your utility bill to cstone@hoover.k12.al.us. Please include your child's name and grade.

25-26 online registration began April 15th and ends May 22nd. All students are required to have their online registration completed before school is out. At the end of May, online registration will be shut down until school starts in August (except for new students). This means if students have not registered online, they cannot participate in school activities during the summer.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The end of the school year requires some housekeeping tasks throughout the school. The health room is no exception.  

An adult will be required to pick up any medications that your child may have in the health room, unless your child has specific written permissions to carry the medication on their person. Medications should be picked up by noon on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Any medications left at school will be destroyed after noon on May 22. No exceptions.

When your child returns to school in August a new medication form with parent and physician signature will be required. This will be sent to you along with a Health Care Plan for next year (if one is required) that you will need to sign and return along with the medication and the form. One form will be required for each medication brought to school for the 2025-2026 school year.

PLEASE REMEMBER! Students are allowed ONLY 9 parent excuses per school year. This includes Anticipated Absence forms. Students are supposed to submit a Doctor or Parent excuse to the Attendance Office within 3 days of return. Please see all of the Attendance Guidelines on the website here.

LOST and FOUND is getting out of control again- please have your student search for lost items on the 2nd Floor Elective Hall. All items will be donated if not claimed!

We are thrilled to welcome you to Hoover High School! As you begin this exciting transition from middle school, we want to share a few important policies and procedures to help make your start as smooth as possible.

At Hoover, we encourage students to build independence and responsibility, and part of that includes coming to school fully prepared each day. Please make sure your student arrives each morning with all the items they need, including:

To minimize classroom disruptions, Hoover High only accepts emergency medical item drop-offs during the school day (e.g., medication, inhalers, emergency replacement clothing, feminine supplies, etc.). We do not accept forgotten items such as instruments, lunches, or Chromebooks at the office.

However, parents are welcome to meet students in the lobby during their Crew period or between class bells if they need to hand something off directly. In addition, athletic gear may be dropped off directly at practice locations after school.

To support rising 9th-grade parents in the fall, Hoover High put together an "HHS Who Can Help Me" form featuring key staff names and email addresses for easy reference.

A24 Worldchangers & SAG-AFTRA Limited Series “GEORGE”

We are now casting for GEORGE, a powerful six-episode limited series produced by A24 and written/created by Mr. Kinnell. This is a SAG-AFTRA production and will be filmed in a cinematic one-take style, with an emotionally grounded story focused on resilience, friendship, and living on even when the world is against you.

A boy from Guatemala with a quiet intensity and emotional depth far beyond his years. Resilient, curious, and deeply observant. George’s emotional arc drives the entire story, from joy to grief to survival and hope.

Must be able to carry dramatic scenes and convey emotion with subtlety.

Note: This is a demanding role and will require physical/emotional stamina.

ISAÍAS (Latinx, 11–13)

George’s best friend from the village. Warm, funny, and loyal. Appears in Episodes 1–2.

VICTOR (Latinx, 13–14)

Tough, proud, and competitive. Leads the local boys’ soccer group. Challenges George and Mason early on. Appears in Episode 1.

MARÍA (Latinx, 12–14)

A girl the boys meet on the road north. Wiser than her age. Speaks blunt truths. Bilingual preferred. Brief but impactful appearance in Episode 2 or 3.

DIEGO (Latinx, 11–13)

A quiet boy held in captivity with George. Emotionally powerful role with minimal dialogue. Episode 3.

YARELI & JULIETA (Latinx, 10–12)

Twin sisters who briefly cross paths with the boys. Mysterious, clever, and hauntingly calm. Small but memorable parts. Episode 2 or 4.

EVAN (12-13)

Cynical and witty foster child. Resistant to connection but slowly softens. Sarcastic but vulnerable. Episode 5-6.

TIA (13-14)

Bold, confident, and unafraid to speak truth to adults. Brings humor and wisdom to the foster home environment. Episode 5-6.

OWEN (11-12)

Kind-hearted and religious. Tries to help George through faith and empathy. Supporting role in Episode 6.

MICAH (Latinx-American, 13-14, bilingual)

The cultural translator at school. Helps George fit in, and eventually challenges him to find his voice. Episode 6.

SCHOOLGIRL (Open ethnicity, 12–13)

Small but key moment in the final scene. Must convey emotion in silence.
