A message from our Principal

Donna Burke

Dear Parents and Guardians-

As I have probably said before, during this time of year, we have one foot in this school year and one foot in the next school year. We have many “end of the year” activities this month, but we are also planning for the next school year. This year, we have a little bit of a different situation because I am retiring at the end of June, and Mrs. Andrea Fordham will be taking the reins for the 25-26 school year on July 1st. Regardless, we have a lot of things going on now and a great deal of planning for next year!

My current focus is to end this school year on a positive note.  We want our students to be the best versions of themselves they can be, and this includes academics and behavior. As we have said all year, our focus in academics and behavior is on GROWTH.

One very important measure of academic growth is the growth students show on the iReady Assessment.  This assessment gives the student, you, and the school immediate feedback on academic progress. The iReady Assessment is scheduled for this week!

Spring iReady Assessment Schedule:
Tuesday, May 6th - 8:45 - 10:30am
Wednesday, May 7th - 8:45 - 10:30am
Thursday ,May 8th - Make-up iReady Testing

Please encourage your children to get rest and eat well prior to the assessment. Also, encourage your children to take their time and do their best when taking the assessment. The iReady program shows us when the student “rushes” and goes through without taking time to read each question. If a student “rushes,” then we will have the student retake the assessment.

Last but not least, many of you have received reminders about online registration for the 2025-26 school year. Please take the time to get this done because the deadline is May 22nd.  We have 432 families who have been notified and have not started the process. 64 families have started the process but have not finished. In addition, please remember that all rising 6th-grade and 9th-grade families have to submit a new utility bill. This registration process has to be completed by May 22nd. Please go online and verify that you have completed the process. Everything is busy now, but it will only get busier between now and May 22nd!

Yes, it is hard to stay focused this time of year, but with your help and support, we can keep the students on the right track!

As always, thank you for all of your support and GO BUCS!

Donna Burke
Principal

IMPORTANT: Online Registration must be completed by May 22

25-26 ONLINE REGISTRATION
Please complete your child's online registration form as soon as possible. If you did not receive an email regarding online registration, please email cstone@hoover.k12.al.us. Your child's account may be on hold.

Congratulations to our Robotics Team!

STEM girls
Divya Nayak, Ana Singh, and Aashita Sunkari were chosen, after a competitive interview process, to attend a week-long STEM camp at the University of Huntsville, called Tech Trek. Only 64 students from the state of Alabama were chosen to be a part of this residential camp, where campers will be immersed in activities and experiences where they are encouraged to think of themselves as future scientists and engineers. Congratulations girls!

Important Message from the Health Room

Notes from the Nurse

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The end of the school year requires some housekeeping tasks throughout the school. The health room is no exception.

An adult will be required to pick up any medications that your child may have in the health room, unless your child has specific written permissions to carry the medication on their person. Medications should be picked up by noon on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Any medications left at school will be destroyed after noon on May 22. No exceptions.

When your child returns to school in August a new medication form with parent and physician signature will be required. This will be sent to you along with a Health Care Plan for next year (if one is required) that you will need to sign and return along with the medication and the form. One form will be required for each medication brought to school for the 2025-2026 school year.

If you have any questions please call Nurse Zylstra or Nurse Schmith at 205-439- 2261 or 205-439-2230.

Have a safe and happy summerT

Important Information for Incoming High School Students & Families

Dear Students and Families,
We are thrilled to welcome you to Hoover High School! As you begin this exciting transition from middle school, we want to share a few important policies and procedures to help make your start as smooth as possible.
At Hoover, we encourage students to build independence and responsibility, and part of that includes coming to school fully prepared each day. Please make sure your student arrives each morning with all the items they need, including:
  • Backpack
  • Chromebook and charger
  • Instruments
  • Uniforms or clothing for extracurriculars
  • Lunch/money
  • Any necessary school supplies
Drop-Off Policy
To minimize classroom disruptions, Hoover High only accepts emergency medical item drop-offs during the school day (e.g., medication, inhalers, emergency replacement clothing, feminine supplies, etc.). We do not accept forgotten items such as instruments, lunches, or Chromebooks at the office.
However, parents are welcome to meet students in the lobby during their Crew period or between class bells if they need to hand something off directly. In addition, athletic gear may be dropped off directly at practice locations after school.

To support rising 9th-grade parents in the fall, Hoover High put together an "HHS Who Can Help Me" form featuring key staff names and email addresses for easy reference.

We appreciate your support in helping students build daily habits that lead to success in high school and beyond. We’re so glad you’re joining the Hoover community and look forward to a fantastic year!

Reminders for the School Year

Bumpus Carpool
CARPOOL:
  • In order for students to get to class by 8:30am, it would be best for students to be dropped off by 8:25am.
  • If you prefer carpool or do not qualify for a bus, it would be great for families to “carpool” and have more than one student in the car. By doing this we could eliminate the number of cars we have in the lines.
  • If you pick up in the afternoon carpool, it is important to close the big gaps between cars in the line. By closing the gaps, we can be much more efficient in the carpool process.
  • If you do carpool or have other family members pick up your child– please make sure they are aware of how our carpool pick-up works.
WALKERS & BIKE RIDERS
  • Students must stay on the sidewalks when walking to and from school.
  • Students should follow all directions given by our Crossing Guards and our School Resource Officer.
  • Students walking towards Lake Wilburn, should only walk on the sidewalk down Flemming Pkwy. Students should NOT cross Flemming.
  • Students walking towards Green Trails should stay on the sidewalk and only cross the street when directed by the Crossing Guard or our School Resource officer.
  • Students riding bikes should MUST wear bike helmets.
  • Due to the steep hill going down Flemming and the crowded sidewalks, students should walk beside their bikes and not ride down the hill.
  • Students are not allowed to ride scooters to and from school.
BUS RIDERS:
  • Appropriate bus behavior is crucial for the safety of all of our students who ride the bus.
  • Students should remain seated at all times and keep their hands and feet to themselves.
  • In addition, students can use their phones on the bus. However, they do not need to take pictures or videos of people who do not wish to have pictures or videos taken.
  • On the bus, students can listen to music but must use headphones.
DROPPING OFF ITEMS:
  • Parents can drop off items for students during the day if they forget items.
  • We will not be able to call students down for items such as PE clothes, assignments, sports items. If a student forgets these items, they can come down during the day to check to see if these items have been dropped off.
  • However, we will be able to call students down for lunch money or if they forgot their lunch and need to pick it up.
Dropping off items
Water bottles
WATER BOTTLES:
  • Students can have water bottles during the school day, but the bottles need to be clear or translucent. Students can only have water in the bottles. Metal bottles and metal cups are not allowed. In the cafeteria, students can bring and buy drinks other than water.
