Greetings Bumpus Families,
|
We had an incredible day this last Thursday, October 10th! Our Color Fun/Color Run day was awesome. Our teachers did a great job planning the Color Fun part of the day, once again, our SGA planned and led a fantastic Pep Rally!
Thursday ended with our Annual Color Run sponsored by our PTO. I looked back at my pictures on my phone and this was our 10th year of having a Color Run! This one was planned, organized, and executed by an incredible group of PTO volunteers, and I truly believe it was the BEST Color Run we have ever had. I am so grateful to this group, our other parent volunteers, and all the Peer Helpers from Hoover High School.

The end of the 9 weeks was yesterday, Friday, October 11th. Teachers are grading assignments, and posting grades in PowerSchool. Parents will be able to look at grades via the PowerSchool portal. In addition, each student will get a DATA folder when we return to school next week, and it will include a report card, an i-Ready report from August, and an ACAP score report from last Spring. We will also include a guide to understanding the iReady report and the ACAP report. Most importantly, we will include a Goal Setting form for each student.
It is important for our students to understand setting personal goals. These are not goals comparing themselves to others but their own personal goals for success, growth, or improvement. This DATA folder will have the information they need based on the beginning of the year which will be their starting point. Our students will have the opportunity to set goals based on their academic performance and behavior. For behavior, our students will look at our core values and set specific goals for each area. Students will take their DATA folders home to review all items with parents/guardians. Students will need to return the folders to school including all documents so they can refer to them during the year. Feel free to make copies of the documents if you like, but please do not remove them from the folders so students can access them at each grading period and i-Ready and ACAP Testing period.
I hope you and your family have a great weekend!
Principal,
Donna Burke

Support Our Schools with Game On! – A Night of Foundation Family Fun
|
The Hoover City Schools Foundation is thrilled to introduce our upcoming fundraiser, Game On! A Night of Foundation Family Fun! This unique event is all about giving back — without even leaving your home. Instead of attending a traditional fundraiser, we’re inviting families to enjoy a priceless evening together and donate what they would have spent on event tickets, babysitters, and extras to the Hoover City Schools Foundation. Here's how it works:
-
Date & Time: Any day between October 21-November 1, 2024 – in the comfort of your own home.
-
Event Overview: Skip the hassle of getting dressed up and hiring a babysitter. Instead, spend quality time with your family at home, whether it’s playing games, watching a movie, or simply enjoying each other's company. In exchange, make a donation to the Foundation that reflects what you would have spent on a night out.
-
The Impact: Every donation supports our teacher grant program, which funds innovative classroom projects and enrichment activities that go beyond the standard curriculum. By contributing, you’re investing in the future of our students and schools. We are setting our goal at $15,000!
What Your Gifts Can Do:
- $50 can send one fifth grade student to The Hovercraft Project
- $100 can sponsor two students for GEMS (Girls Engaged in Math and Science)
- $250 can be used for STEM experiments
- $500 funds 25% of a classroom grant
We know that family time is precious and hard to come by, so Game On! is your chance to combine a night of togetherness with meaningful support for our schools.

Bumpus Goes Pink For the Cure
|
|
|
|
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Bumpus will Go Pink! For the Cure. We have collaborated with the Susan G. Koman Foundation to honor breast cancer survivors and thrivers, and to honor those who have gone on after their fight.
Below is a link to a website for our community to donate directly to the foundation in Bumpus' name. For every $5 you donate, you will receive one of these pink running ribbons! You can write an encouraging statement, the name of a loved one impacted, or your name on the ribbon. We will use the ribbons to Paint the Halls Pink all month long. Thanks for your support! https://bit.ly/bumpuspink24
