Greetings Bumpus Families,
|
Greetings Bumpus Families,
We had a great Spirit week! The dress-up days were fun and the Pep Rally was outstanding. Our SGA students did a great job planning the dress-up days and the Pep Rally. We have some great leaders in our school!
As September nears an end, schoolwork can become more challenging. As I have said before, we have a lot of opportunities for students to get extra help when they need it. We are also encouraging our students to show perseverance, which is one of our Core Values. In student terms, we tell our students to “keep going, keep trying, and don’t quit”. Often, it is tough to watch our students struggle, but there is a term called “productive struggle” which means teaching students to work through difficult tasks. Sometimes it's easy to “give up” right away, but we want our students to work through these problems and challenges which will produce academic growth. Again, we have opportunities for extra help and assistance, but we also want to help encourage our students to be problem solvers. Of course, it is the balance of the two that we strive for at Bumpus.
The Color Run is right around the corner on October 10th! As I have said, this is our HUGE fundraiser for our PTO. We would love to have 100% participation. If you have not sent a form in for your child, be sure to send it in next week.
As always, thank you for all of your support & GO BUCS!
Principal,
Donna Burke

EXTRA HELP & ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS
|
We have assistance available for our students during the school day which includes the following:
- Morning ETA (Extra Time & Assistance): 7:30-8:15 every morning in Room 110. During this time, teachers are available to assist students with assignments.
- Lunch ETA: 6th grade only. Students have an additional 24 minutes during the lunch period to work on assignments. Teachers are available to assist students during this time.
- Working Lunch: One teacher stays on the hall during lunch and allows students to eat while they work on assignments.
- Friday ETA: Students who do not complete assignments during the week due to absences or other reasons may be assigned to Friday ETA to complete work. If a student misses an assessment during the week, it can be made up during this time.
- Peer Helpers: We will have some high school peer helpers who will be coming to Bumpus and may be available to help students depending on the time they are on campus.
- Some teachers may offer extra help before or after school. However, they are not required to offer this time.
- Tutoring: If you would like your student to have one-on-one tutoring, please contact your grade-level counselor. They have a list of available tutors you can contact to set up tutoring time with your child.
Another great resource is homeworkalabama.org which provides Individualized Tutoring, Test Prep, and Job Search Assistance for Alabamians Through Homework Alabama, every Alabamian gains no-cost access to one-to-one tutoring and drop-off review services, test prep, and self-paced resources, and job search assistance. All tutors are rigorously vetted subject-matter experts. They ask questions, they encourage, and they empower. They’re available every day from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. so learners of all ages and stages can get help anytime, anywhere, from any internet-connected device.

Bumpus Goes Pink For the Cure
|
|
|
|
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Bumpus will Go Pink! For the Cure. We have collaborated with the Susan G. Koman Foundation to honor breast cancer survivors and thrivers, and to honor those who have gone on after their fight.
Below is a link to a website for our community to donate directly to the foundation in Bumpus' name. For every $5 you donate, you will receive one of these pink running ribbons! You can write an encouraging statement, the name of a loved one impacted, or your name on the ribbon. We will use the ribbons to Paint the Halls Pink all month long. Thanks for your support! https://bit.ly/bumpuspink24

Students have been doing a great job helping keep our Bumpus community clean and organized by cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, keeping the cafeteria stocked for breakfast and lunch, and helping individual teachers in their classrooms.
As we continue to teach our students responsibility--one of our core values-- only students have access to the Community Service Sign-Up Google Form via their HCS emails and Chromebooks.
