A message from our Principal
|
|
|
|
Greetings Bumpus Families,
We have had a lot of great things going on at Bumpus this week. We had a great volleyball match with two wins against Liberty Park and our cross country team competed at a cross country meet. In addition, we have students involved in preparing for our fall play, our debate team practicing for their upcoming competitions, and our robotics team practicing for their upcoming events. Of course, we had a football game with our football teams, cheerleading squad, dance teams, and our band performing which is always exciting!
As you know from the ParentSquare message sent out this week, a note was discovered after school hours on Thursday, September 5. A school employee found a handwritten note in the hallway listing the names of several seventh-grade students. All parents of the students mentioned in the note were directly contacted. The school administration investigated and addressed the situation. Our School Resource Officers, Hoover Police, and Hoover City Schools Central Office Administration were all present to help ensure a safe and positive environment.
The school's investigation, including a review of surveillance video and student interviews, led to the determination that the list was written by two female students. This has been verified and those two students are being appropriately disciplined in accordance with the Hoover City Schools Student Code of Conduct.
I want to assure you that the school climate remains positive, and classes and daily activities will proceed as normal. As always, we have our school safety plan in place, and rest assured, our students are safe at Bumpus.
Please contact the school's main office or your child's guidance counselor if you need assistance.
Principal,
Donna Burke

REMINDERS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

DROPPING OFF ITEMS:
- Parents can drop off items for students during the day if they forget items.
-
We will not be able to call students to pick up items such as PE clothes, assignments, or sports items. If a student forgets these items, they can come down during the day to check to see if these items have been dropped off.
- We will call students to pick up their lunch or lunch money.
BUS RIDERS:
- If you ride a bus, be patient with the bus drivers. Most of the drivers are running double routes with the elementary school and this is causing some delays in picking up and dropping off students. Currently, I do not have a way to communicate specifically with each set of parents to send messages when a bus is late. I hope we will have this communication process in place soon.
- Bus Riders were given a copy of the HCS 2024-2025 bus discipline letter at the start of school. Please review this letter with your children: 2024-2025 Middle School Bus Discipline Letter.
CARPOOL:
- It would be great for families to “carpool” and have more than one student in the car. By doing this we could eliminate the number of cars we have in the lines.
- If you pick up in the afternoon carpool, it is important to close the big gaps between cars in the line. By closing the gaps, we can be much more efficient in the carpool process.
- If you do carpool or have other family members pick up your child– please make sure they are aware of how our carpool pick-up works.
WATER BOTTLES:
- Students can have water bottles during the school day, but the bottles need to be clear or translucent. Students can only have water in the bottles. Metal bottles and metal cups are not allowed. In the cafeteria, students can bring and buy drinks other than water.

- Students walking towards Green Trails should stay on the sidewalk and only cross the street when directed by the Crossing Guard or our School Resource officer.

Community Service at Bumpus
|
|
|
|
Students have been doing a great job helping keep our Bumpus community clean and organized by cleaning and sanitizing classrooms, keeping the cafeteria stocked for breakfast and lunch, and helping individual teachers in their classrooms.
As we continue to teach our students responsibility--one of our core values-- only students have access to the Community Service Sign-Up Google Form via their HCS emails and Chromebooks.
See the following guidelines for more information.
- All September dates are filled.
- October dates are available.
- If you need a Community Service form for outside service you can pick one up from the hanging rack next to Mrs. Stanton's door at A122 on the 8-3 hall-- or print it using the link below.
- Please email Mrs. Burbridge wburbridge@hoover.k12.al.us or Mrs. Stanton lstanton@hoover.k12.al.us if you have any questions.
