Bumpus Core Values
A message from our Principal
Donna Burke in front of Bumpus Middle School at sunset.
Greetings Bumpus Families,
Thank you to all of the 7th & 8th grade parents/guardians who attended OPEN HOUSE last Tuesday. It is always nice to have our families in the building. Having students in middle school brings on anxiety for some parents and students so we hope we were able to answer questions and ease any uncertainty some families may feel. On Tuesday evening, I shared the 7th/8th grade Open House presentation via ParentSquare. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

We have had football games the last two Thursdays. This is a fun time for our players, dance team members, cheerleaders, and band members. This can also be a fun time for our students who attend to cheer on our teams. We want our students to cheer for our team and not against the visiting team, and as middle schoolers, we ask that the students not run around during the game. Both teams sit on the same side on the concrete bleachers, and we have the “HOME” side designated on the right side facing the field and the “AWAY” side designated on the left side facing the field. We want our students to learn “how” to win and “how” to lose. Showing good sportsmanship at all Bumpus events is very important.

I hope you have a great holiday weekend!

Donna Burke

REMINDERS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
DROPPING OFF ITEMS:
  • Parents can drop off items for students during the day if they forget items.
  • We will not be able to call students down for items such as PE clothes, assignments, or sports items. If a student forgets these items, they can come down during the day to check to see if these items have been dropped off.
  • However, we will be able to call students down for lunch money or if they forgot their lunch and need to pick it up.
BUS RIDERS:
  • If you ride a bus, be patient with the bus drivers as they drive their new routes. In addition, most of the drivers are running double routes with the elementary school and this is causing some delays in picking up and dropping off students. Currently, I do not have a way to communicate specifically with each set of parents to send messages when a bus is late. I hope we will have this communication process in place soon.
  • On Friday, Bus Riders were given a copy of the HCS 2024-2025 bus discipline letter Please review this letter with your children: 2024-2025 Middle School Bus Discipline Letter.
CARPOOL:
  • If you prefer to carpool or do not qualify for a bus, it would be great for families to “carpool” and have more than one student in the car. By doing this we could eliminate the number of cars we have in the lines.
  • If you pick up in the afternoon carpool, it is important to close the big gaps between cars in the line. By closing the gaps, we can be much more efficient in the carpool process. Please see the new carpool diagram below.
  • If you do carpool or have other family members pick up your child– please make sure they are aware of how our carpool pick-up works.
WATER BOTTLES:
  • Students can have water bottles during the school day, but the bottles need to be clear or translucent. Students can only have water in the bottles. Metal bottles and metal cups are not allowed. In the cafeteria, students can bring and buy drinks other than water.
WALKERS & BIKE RIDERS
  • Students must stay on the sidewalks when walking to and from school.
  • Students should follow all directions given by our Crossing Guards and our School Resource Officer.
  • Students walking towards Lake Wilburn should only walk on the sidewalk down Flemming Pkwy. Students should NOT cross Flemming.
  • Students walking towards Green Trails should stay on the sidewalk and only cross the street when directed by the Crossing Guard or our School Resource officer.
  • Students riding bikes should MUST wear bike helmets while on campus.
  • Students are not allowed to ride scooters to and from school.
